I’m not done with it yet, but that’s what I have so far.

I noticed on many forums and heard from friends that they find Discovery Channel very boring. I personally love that channel. You get to see how things work and it just grabs my attention. Because of discovery channel, I am passing my Manufacturing and many of my engineering classes. They explain everything you need to know. When you read a book, its hard to understand but those documentaries from that channel helps clarify things to an extent that you could go to a test room and get an “A” on the topic.

Recently I was invited by EHSAN to a beta program called JOOST. It is a beautiful software. You get the opportunity to watch live T.V. on your computer, and best of all, its FREE. I don’t have a T.V. in my room, because of my obnoxious roommate, so this is perfect for me. I watch Discovery Channel whenever I have free time.

The following posts were made by me on the Wauchi forum. This will help explain the downtime that took place. The server was down for about 2-3 days. We are still trying to fix the errors that was encountered.

Dear members,

Recently one of the servers that Fleech Media, Inc., a sponsor of Wauchi, had been hacked and thereby crashed within 10 hours. That was the main server where the list of layouts and graphics were located and therefore there maybe many missing files that was either submitted by Ehsan or me. It was great loss for Fleech Media, Inc. specifically for me because I spent over a thousand dollars into those sites that ran on that server. I am sorry for this and many be enactive, possibly just give up, on websites, layouts and graphics. That was the most protected server and it was hacked. The backup I had was on their backup server which was part of the main server and that too crashed this morning at around 10:00am. The transfer of Wauchi from HostGator to my server will be delayed. It may not even be transfered and thereby may be sent to IF. I am really sorry for this but this kind of crap just pisses me off. I HATE HACKERS. I will decide by tomorrow wether I will stay in the business or not, whenever I’m ready to announce, I will post it here.

Well the issue is that they totally trashed the server, nothing is left, the entire software is dead and in the morning yesterday the entire server just crashed, not sure if they can bring it back up again. I am working with Ehsan at the moment and we have decided to bring e10host back but we will be a small community this time. But the rebirth wont happen until the end of the summer. I am working to earn the money at the moment. We need about $1500-$2000 for this project. The server costs about $120 a month for a duo 80gig harddrive. We are looking for partners if anyone is interested.

I just got a message from the owner of the server stating the following:

I don?t want to raise any false hopes here, but I have been contacted by the COO of SoftLayer along with Michael Miller from their sale department and they are reassigning the support to their highest level techs and are going to try to recover data from the server. The obviously cannot make promises but they are going to make an attempt.

This process could take 12-24 hours or longer before we have any definitive answers.

In addition to that, I am discussing with him to find out if he can grant me more space for a few extra dollars so that I can offer free hosting to the members of this site and be able to fully transfer Wauchi on to the server in addition to having extra space for backup. Help me do what he exactly said, keep our fingers crossed.

Well I’m beginning to gain some of my sites back. Here is a noticed I received from the owner (by the way, he also owns namestand.com)

Here is what I do know: Last night at 11:00 PM EDT I did my final check for the evening and everything appeared okay. Although, I was planning on rebooting the server first thing Monday morning as that is the slowest time of the week.

I got up at 5:15 this morning and checked my alerts. I had two that were discomforting both had to do with available disk space in /var and /backup. Both partitions were full. Normally /var is 42% and /backup is around 52%. I rebooted the server and it took almost an hour before it was back running. Actually I got tired of waiting and figuring that SoftLayer wouldn’t respond to a ticket before 9:00 am EDT anyways, I got ready to go to my day job. I did open a ticket and it was 9:15 before I received a first response telling me what I had already figured out.

I found that instead of one 250 GB partition the second drive was now eight partitions. In fact it looked eerily like the primary drive in the server operating system loaded and all. SoftLayer’s response was exactly that.

We could see that each drive has 250 GB of size. The primary drive has partitions from /dev/sda1 to /dev/sda8. Similarly the secondary drive also has partitions from /dev/sdb1 to /dev/sdb8. It seems to be swapping has done recently or you may have installed linux on each drive.

I change root passwords every 7 days. The only entity outside of myself that had access to this password is SoftLayer support. Now, don’t get me wrong, I do not think that it was them. I do think that the server has been compromised though. In over 20 years of working in IT, I have never seen a system repartition a hard drive and install an OS on its own. J

SoftLayer is currently working on the issue and is running fsck as the latest reboot came up in a maintenance windows stating that there were disk errors. This will most likely take several hours.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this outage causes. In the five years that I’ve owned and operated NameStand.com I have had less than 3 hours of unplanned downtime.
